Providing access to a quality education for all students

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers.

The Government believes that schools should decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and spent, since it is felt that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. From September 2012, schools have been required to publish online information about how they have used the Premium. This ensures that parents and others are made fully aware of the additional provision and the impact that it has had.

Some of the support and resources funded by the Pupil Premium also benefits children who may not necessarily be eligible for free school meals but have been identified by the school as being at a disadvantage compared to their peers.

The DfE have stated that schools with less than 5 pupils who are awarded pupil premium are not required to publish information regarding how the funding has been spent. If you require any further information on Pupil Premium please do not hesitate to contact our School Office Manager.

Your child will receive a free school lunch until the end of Year 2. This meal is completely without charge to all parents of children in Reception, Y1 and Y2.

However, if receive one of the benefits below then your child will also be entitled to ‘Pupil Premium’ – an amount which the Government gives directly to schools to support your child’s education:

  • Income Support

  • Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • The Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit

  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and have an annual household income of less than £16,190

  • Limited access to enriching educational experiences outside the context of GEMS Twickenham Primary Academy
  • How will Twickenham Primary Academy use its Pupil Premium funds this year (2018 - 2019)?

  • 5% of our Pupils are currently eligible for pupil premium funding
  • Total funds for 2017/2018: £10,560

  • Teaching and Learning opportunities to meet the needs of all our pupils

  • That appropriate provision is made for all pupils who belong to disadvantaged groups. Including all children who are registered for Free School Meals or have been in the last 6 years, including those pupils who are looked after / in care or children from military families

  • Through tracking the pupils progress and attainment and observations of well - being, we allocate provision so that the pupils make the best possible progress

  • Allocation to be made following an assessment of need which identifies significant priorities for the child

We will do this through:

  • Quality first teaching and small group work
  • An allocated teaching assistant to provide further intervention for the Pupil Premium Children
